Baby Isaac is here!

Jason and I are so happy to announce the arrival of our baby boy! Our son Isaac Samuel was born 10 lbs. 15 oz. and 23 inches long at 5:04 pm on Monday, January 25. We are so excited and thank God for a safe, delivery and a healthy, happy, strong baby!!!!
Me with my doctor (leaving out her name for privacy)...She's GREAT!
We arrived at the hospital to begin the process of being induced. I was three days past my due date and my doctor and I discussed when we should induce. I was feeling some discomfort from the weight of the baby and was willing to be induced because I didn't want him to get much bigger. At the time, I of course, did not know how BIG he really was--I just knew my back hurt, it was uncomfortable and awkward to sit, and walking caused a lot of pressure and pain on my pelvis area. So, I began having a dose of citotech (a medication to soften the cervix) on Sunday evening. Then, when I had dilated to about a 4-5 cm, they began a steady drip of Petosin (to create contractions) in my IV. It was Monday morning by then, and I was not in very much pain yet. As the contractions grew stronger, I asked for an epidural (anesthesia to numb from the waist down) to ease the pain until I would deliver the baby. Around 2:00 pm on Monday, I was fully dilated to 10 cm and ready to push our baby boy out into the world!! I pushed for two hours and as the doctor and nurses checked my progress, they had little to report. In other words, they could feel his head coming down, but it was not budging from where it was perched. After two hours of pushing, there was still not any progress. My doctor said that I could try to push for one more hour or we could do a C-section. She said that if we did the third hour of pushing, then it would be necessary to do a C-section if he had not come out. I was very exhausted after two hours of pushing, and because there had been no progress up to that point, Jason and I decided to do the C-section and not push for a third hour.
Shortly, after that Isaac arrived via C-section!

The nurses, surgery techs, and doctors in the operating room were SHOCKED by how big Isaac is!! My doctor exclaimed, "He's HUGE!" when he came out. She also immediately said that I could have never pushed him out vaginally, because he is so big and his shoulders are so wide. I am thankful that we made the choice to have the C-section, because if he had come down farther into my birth canal he could have gotten stuck or caused me and him some trauma that could have been very scary or even dangerous to either of us. I know some people say that they've heard of babies being born vaginally that are 10+ lbs, but it must be that the person having a baby that big is built larger than me in that area. I could not have pushed him out, because I am too narrow down there, and that is why Isaac was not "dropping out" when I pushed for 2 hours earlier that day.

Isaac's sized and weight and length was much larger than average babies that the nurses and doctors at my hospital had seen! He became the talk of the hospital--a nearly 11 lb baby! Even the security guard at the front entrance had heard about the "GIANT" baby that was born. Jason went to get some things from the car, and the security guard said...oh, you're the one with the HUGE baby! It was pretty funny... Some of the nurses and doctors were joking that I gave birth to a "toddler" instead of an infant. Even some of the other new Moms I met had heard about the BIG baby...

His hair and eyelashes are fairly light. They aren't quite blond, but more of a light brown. He has a medium amount of hair--not really thick and full yet, but it is definitely covering his head.
Here is Jason in his scrub outfit that he wore into the operating room. He got to see Isaac before me, and really had a "bird's eye" view of the whole experience. I was soooo HAPPY when I heard Isaac cry, but I didn't get to see him until he had been cleaned up and measured and weighed. I didn't get to hold him until I was back in my labor and delivery room a little later in the afternoon.

This photo was taken the night we took Isaac home. He is wearing "real" clothes, a 3-month old size, for the first time. We took him home on Wednesday, January 27.

All ready to go home from the hospital! They let us go home a day early, because everything was going well and both me and the baby were doing good. We will have follow up appointments soon with Isaac's pediatrician and my OBGYN. Now, we are just learning how to take care of the baby on our own at home! It's going to be FUN! We will get a lot less sleep and by VERY busy, but I'm sure the experience will be wonderful! We are so thankful to God for giving us this precious gift of our son! It is an amazing miracle, and every time I look at Isaac, I still can't believe he was in my stomach and that God created him in there all these last nine months. --AMAZING!

2010 ~ Happy New Year!

New Year's Eve was "rockin" at B & J's house again this year! We had a great time playing the game "Guesstures"!

B showed us how to act out something...it was boys against the girls...so the competition was pretty tight!
B & J try to show each other how to win the trophy! The new version of Guesstures has a little trophy you win if your team guess all your cards correctly!
I'm trying to illustrate "???" something amazing I'm sure! I did win the trophy! Yay! See the next photo! Girls rule...boys drool! Ha ha!

Baby Arlo had so much fun playing with the new toys at his friends' house! He is getting soo big! They grow so fast! We'll have our little boy soon, and we'll see how fast they really do grow!!

Jason surveying the cards...setting up his strategy for victory...must go for the trophy!

At midnight it was time for some carbonated grape juice, or "bubbly" as I like to call it! Welch's makes a great sparkling grape juice! Happy New Year, everybody!

January 1 is B's birthday, so after making new year's toasts in our red, plastic cups...we proceeded to celebrate his birthday! Happy Birthday to you...Happy Birthday to you...Happy Birthday dear B!! Happy Birthday to you!! And many more.... It was a yummy donut cake!

After all the delicious food J served us earlier in the night, the donut was icing on the cake! Great fun that night! Thanks for having us over!

Christmas Afternoon & Sunset

On Christmas afternoon, we went to a park near our house to feed some old bread and crackers to the ducks and geese! It was a beautiful sunset!
The geese were especially hungry and crowded around us, trying to grab the bread right from our hands! They even pecked at us a few times!

These geese are soo cute! They have these amazing shaggy, fluffy feathers!
We took a walk all the way around the pond! It was cold, but not too bad!

Merry Christmas at Our House

At Christmas, we usually fly up to Kentucky to spend the holiday with Debbie's parents, and her brother and his wife also usually come down from Maine to visit. However, this year we were blessed to have Jason's parents come to visit us here in Texas over the Christmas holidays! With my brother and his wife due to have their baby girl on December 29, and us awaiting our baby boy's arrival on January 21, traveling by plane was not an option. We missed seeing Debbie's side of the family, but will look forward to visits with the new babies in the near future! We had such a great time visiting with Jason's parents, and really, really appreciated their help with getting our nursery ready for our baby boy!! They helped move the heavy furniture from the living room--where it had been delivered earlier in December--into the nursery. They helped clean up the closet and assemble the crib and move some other pieces of furniture around the house to accommodate the new nursery space. The nursery space had been used as a storage area, and so there were a wide variety of odds and ends in there... We could not have gotten everything situated without their help!! It was perfect timing too, because Jason had just finished painting the nursery! We didn't do a lot of gifts this year, because we are all just so excited about the new "gift" of our baby boy! We did enjoy a wonderful Christmas dinner together, and spent the afternoon feeding the ducks and taking a walk at a park nearby.
We had fresh greens from Jason's grandparent's garden as well as sweet potatoes from their garden. We enjoyed vegetarian turkey and stuffing casserole, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, whole wheat rolls, and raspberry lemonade. For dessert, I served Blackberry Cobbler with vanilla ice cream! YUMMY!
Here's a photo of Jason and me in front of our Christmas tree! I am 36 weeks pregnant!

The decorations taper off a little at the bottom...that's because we have four cats and have to be cautious about what we hang toward the bottom! It was sooo much fun to decorate the tree this year! Can hardly wait for next year, when we'll have a little "helper" to help decorate for Christmas!

Beginnings...Our Baby Boy's Nursery

We are soo excited about getting our nursery set up! We found a design idea on the web, and decided to try to paint our nursery with squares like they did. The nursery we saw online had squares painted on one wall and then a solid color on the other three walls. Jason did the painting in here, and did an AMAZING job!!!! I helped put the tape up and helped with "cheering" him along. Although, I did not want to breath the paint fumes, so I tried to only pop in to check on him during the process! We are really happy with the results, and it was definitely worth the work! We'll be adding the baby's name above the crib when he's born, too!

Baby's closet already is filled with lots of stuff and soo many cute clothes that our friends and family gave us during this time of preparation! We are so thankful for the kindness and generosity of everyone who attended our baby showers and who sent us gifts!
The theme for the nursery is "Jungle"! Here is the quilt for the crib. The crib sheets and mattress are not set up yet, but will be soon!
