Fall Colors in our Yard

Our front yard is bursting with color right now! We have just planted some new flowers and leafy plants in the "circle" flower bed, and the zinias in the other area of our front yard are producing really beautifully.

I really love zinias! These were planted from seeds! They are doing better now that the weather is cooling down some. During the summer months we struggled to keep them watered enough and so they didn't bloom as much.

A Happy Thanksgiving!

We had a wonderful time visiting with Jason's side of the family over Thanksgiving! We spent several days enjoying lots of yummy food and having fun playing with our nephew, Brady! We shared Thanksgiving dinner with the pastor Bryan, his wife April and their son Levi, too!

After a delicious dinner, we gathered outside to watch the kids play!

On Sabbath afternoon, Jason and I took a walk on the bayou! The sunset was soo beautiful that evening! I'm 32 weeks pregnant! Only 8 weeks to go! Time is really flying by!

Here's a family photo we took on Thanksgiving day!

30th Birthday Party!

I turned 30 on November 6, 2009! Hard to believe I've exited my 20s and now have moved into the next decade! We had some great food and a fun evening with friends celebrating with us at our house! Jason made yummy meatballs--recipe from his home church friends from Louisiana--and everyone brought a few party snacks to share!

I am 29 weeks pregnant at my birthday party! I remember feeling a little tired towards the end of the night. Usually when we have game nights or parties at our house I can be up past midnight pretty easily...but being pregnant...I think I started to drag around 10-11pm... Most of our friends brought their kids along with them, so everyone started leaving around 10-11pm or so anyways! It was a really fun time! Thanks for coming everybody!!
Jason picked up a special ice cream cake fro Marble Slab Creamery for me!! It was cookies and cream flavor...yummy!!! It was an interesting challenge pulling the cake in and out of the freezer!

That's a lot of candles! I made a big wish, so I needed all those candles on there!! Next photo I'm blowing them out--I did good! I thought that being pregnant it would be more difficult to get a deep breath and blow them out, but it wasn't any trouble at all--I got them all out on the first blow!!
I think the kids were ready to eat "all" my cake!! When they saw the cake and candles, they got excited! It was really cute! I thought I would have some "help" blowing out the candles, but they let me do it by myself! :-)

Fall Picnic!

At the end of October, we took a Sabbath afternoon picnic to some parks in downtown Houston's art district. It was perfect weather, the food was delicious, and we enjoyed taking a walk around the gardens and parks in the area after lunch.
Vegetarian Turkey sandwiches...with Palm Heart salad, and chips! Brownies for dessert!

After lunch we took a walk around the Houston Garden Center, and I saw these beauties growing closely together in one section. I love the way the contrast and compliment one another. We have some of the larger caladiums growing in our flower beds and pots at home, so now I'm inspired to add some other small, leafy green and white plants to give our gardens a similarly color and texture-complementary pleasing effect!

I'm 27 weeks pregnant! I love the Houston Garden Center, it makes a lovely setting for photos! The lighting was a little bit of a challenge, but later in the day the shadows helped make a much better photo.
As we walked around the art and museum district, we stopped by the Museum of Natural Science to get some water and take a break. We found this little guy crawling around the front steps of the museum. He was being supervised by a museum staff member and was out and about for his daily exposure to the sun. He lives in the Butterfly Gardens exhibit at the museum, but does not get enough sun inside his enclosure, so they have to bring him outside as much as possible. I am actually not afraid of lizards...oddly enough...but I am terrified of snakes. I thought he was really cool and I enjoyed watching him and giving him a quick little "pat" on the back! :-)

Fall garden has been planted

Jason made some really nice rows in our garden for the fall season plants. We have planted Mesclun, Lettuce, Swiss Chard, Mustard (India), Onions, and Winter Squash (Acorn, Butternut, and Spaghetti). We have some green peppers that are still trying to produce from the summer garden--althought I'm not sure if they ever will. Our summer garden didn't do very well, because we had drought conditions most of the season. We did water with the hose and gave everything feritlizer, etc...but the summer crops produced very little this year. Kind of disappointing, considering how great our harvest was last summer. We have high hopes for the "fall garden"! Maybe with cooler weather and more rain in the forecast, we'll get some good veggies out of it!

The three green pepper plants are there in the front of the main garden area. They are still hanging on after surviving a hot, dry summer.

This mum planter came back on its own this fall. We didn't replant it or get new plants, it just kept growing all year and has suddenly decided to bloom!

Our butterfly bush is soo happy in this spot! Even though it has been crowded by the huge Cosmo flowering plants, it is still growing really, really well!

These clown flowers come up every year on their own. We never planted them and we didn't buy them...they were already here in the flower bed or maybe a bird brought (dropped) the seeds. They grow in several areas near our rose bushes and hydrangea. We really like them, and noticed this year a pink colored variety coming up in addition to this purple type.

Jason's Outreach Day

Jason's work, CenterPoint Energy held a Day of Caring in partnership with the United Way. They worked on improving and cultivating gardens at the Burnett Bayland Home. This facility is a rehabilitation center for juveniles, offering drug and alcohol counseling, and various types of therapy.
