Garden ~ Summer 2009

We grow a garden twice each year, and this time we got a little late start on the Summer Garden since we were busy with building our fence and school and other "stuff" on the weekends! Needless to say, when you start late, you have to wait longer to get produce! Plus, it gets really hot and then stuff doesn't grow as fast or healthy. My family in Kentucky had harvested vegetables before our plants were even producing blooms! On the left is a flower patch! Next to it is Cucumbers, then Okra. In front of that section is Onions, Carrots, Zuchinni, Yellow Squash, Collard Greens (coming up volunteer). Then finally, we have Tomatoes, Strawberries, Basil, Rosemary, Spearmint, and more flowers.

Basil and Rosemary and Spearmint...Basil is the healthiest, the others are only small sprigs right now...
Zuchinni! If it does as well as it did last year, we'll have 30 or so coming off this plant!

Yellow Squash! They are doing really well, and have produced our first vegetables of the season! YUMMY!
The carrots! We didn't have very good success with carrots last year, so we hope they will grow big and long this time around!
Cucumbers! They always do good! They love to climb and vine on these circular cages.
Okra...we've not grown Okra before, but everyone who I have heard of growing it has had so much Okra that they didn't know what to do with it all!!! I hope we have that problem, because we both REALLY like it!!
These onions are actually left from our Fall garden. They are finally getting big enough for us to harvest them.
We planted these cherry tomatoes from seed! They are doing really well, considering they came up from a tiny, tiny seed!
