First, we checked out the Mutton Bustin'! This is where children ages 5-6 are suited up with some soft padding and protective gear, and then they grab onto the back of a very wooly sheep and ride on its back as fast as they can from one side of the corral to the other end. They usually start to slip off the sheep's back, but since sheep are so short and they have all the safety gear on they don't get hurt. It's really funny to watch!! They are timed to see how fast they can ride without falling off.
Then, we checked out the cattle exposition, where adults and children of all ages were displaying their prize cows!
Isaac loved looking at all the animals!
Family photo time!
We took Isaac inside the petting zoo, and he got to see and touch (kind of) miniature donkeys, kangaroos, goats, chickens, deer, sheep, and llamas. He didn't really want to touch the animals, but he really got excited about seeing them up close and watching Mommy and Daddy pet them.
We wandered through the area where the cows were tied up. These were the same prize winning cows that were in the cattle exposition. I liked the white cows the best! Their fur seemed to be so, so clean and soft and silky!
The owner of this cow asked me if I would like to pet it, and of course I did!!! It was so soft! I commented to her about how soft the fur was, and she said "with a groan in her voice" that is because he has been washed with special shampoo and brushed over and over and over!! I'm sure it is a lot of work to take care of an animal this large, and get it ready for shows!
We checked out the milking exhibit. They actually milked this cow! It was amazing to see how quickly the container filled with milk once they hooked her up. The container is a glass cylinder directly behind the man in the hat.
We also took a quick look at some John Deer tractors!
In the "birthing" area of the stock show, they had a variety of animals that had just been born. We actually saw birthing material hanging out of the back of one cow, and the little cafe at her feet was still covered with fluid. If we had gotten there about 10 minutes earlier, we probably would have actually seen the calf being born! The piggies were really "going to town" nursing on their huge Momma Pig!! That was a sight to see! That poor mother pig must be exhausted with all those piggies eating off of her!
Isaac's favorite exhibit overall was the baby chicks!!! He loved looking at them and really focused on them for a while, making excited noises as they moved around! He really thought they were cute!
